We will meet at the HS Band Hall today (Thursday) at 3:30 pm for our Freshman Orientation performance. Immediately after, we will begin rehearsal outside, learning our new drill sets for next Friday night's performance. Please make sure that you wear orange shirt and blue jeans for the performance, but bring shorts for the rehearsal. You will have time to change.

On Friday, we are taking our group band picture for the HS Football Program. You need to be in uniform, ready to have our picture taken before 6:00 p.m. We will head out to the stadium together, and you will need to group by sections, in order of height (tallest to shortest) as quickly and quietly as possible. Section leaders will need to help facilitate this. Please do not forget black socks and your black band shoes! Students who ordered band shoes will need to wear solid black shoes for the picture.

Remember-if you can do this quickly and well, then we get dismissed early!

For the pool party Friday night, you need to bring the following:

Freshmen and Sophomores: drinks! Sodas, water, and juice pouches are great.

Juniors and Seniors: chips, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc.

The party is at the Murphy Pool in Taylor. Let your section leader know tonight if you need a ride. The party begins at 8:00 pm and lasts until 10:00 pm. Adult supervision will be there in the form of band staff and band boosters.

This Friday's rehearsal time has changed. WE WILL NOT HAVE MORNING REHEARSAL!!! We will instead have practice at the HS Band Hall from 4:30-6:00 p.m. We will be practicing inside (playing rehearsal). Please let others know so that rides can be arranged, etc.

I'm posting the order form for pictures on the "Documents" page of the HS Band website. It's in PDF format, so you'll need Adobe Reader in order to open it and print it. As always, if you need a hard copy, please ask for one in the band office.

Just a reminder to all you band-o's who have not yet had your picture taken that we are finishing band pics this Wednesday during afternoon rehearsal. Please plan ahead for this and make sure you've got your hair/make-up/whatever else stuff with you. You'll be in your uniform, of course. If you have not been fitted for a uniform, we'll be taking care of that as well.

We are performing for the Hutto ISD administration and faculty (about 600 people) next Monday, Aug. 16th, at 8:15am at the high school PAC (Performing Arts Center). Band students will need to wear their band shirt (tucked in) and blue jeans.  If you are an incoming freshman or new member, you will need to wear an orange shirt (HMS folk, last year's band t-shirt will do just fine).  We do not have practice that day until 6pm, so you will need to find a ride home after the performance.  The performance will take about 30 minutes. Roll call will be at 7:45 a.m. in the HS Band Hall for the morning's performance.

I am including a link to the gallery of student pictures for the high school band.  If your son/daughter's picture is not there, that is because it has not been taken as of yet.  The rest of the pictures will be taken this coming Wednesday from 1 -5pm.  I will be sending out an order form from Worrell Photography for you to order pictures if you choose (You DO NOT have to buy pictures - it is totally optional). You will have a choice of buttons, 8 x 10's, 5 x 7's, magnets, band trader cards, and a couple of more options. 

On the website, some pictures are of close ups and some are 3/4 length - Mrs. Worrell picked the best pose for the website.  ALL of the pictures will be cropped and look the same.  I have copied the link to the website.  Please let me know if this does not work properly.

Woo-hoo! Week 1 is done at 3:00 tomorrow, and we've done a LOT of things! I'm sure you're ready for a well-deserved weekend! Here's some reminders for you and your parents:

• FRIDAY IS SUPERHERO DAY!!! Don't forget to dress-out! There will be prizes awarded at the end of the day. The directors will choose winners during afternoon playing rehearsal (so you don't have to be so hot, dressed-up outside!). What's your superpower? Be creative and show us!
• DUE FRIDAY: BAND POLO SHIRT ORDERS!!!! I'm attaching a link to the order form for your convenience. This was emailed out, and we have copies available on the table outside the band office door. We must have your sizes and style preferences by Friday. If you're planning to be late with payment, make sure you communicate with Mr. Gist, Mr. Acuff, or Mrs. Champion ASAP! Shirts are $35, payable to Quality Promotions ($40 if you're having your name embroidered).
• DUE ASAP: FORMS!!!! There are two forms we need returned as soon as possible:
  • The UIL 8-Hour Rule form (signed by you and your parent)
  • Your travel consent/medical form (signed by you and your parent, preferably with a copy of your insurance card)
• DUE FRIDAY: SHOE ORDERS!!!! Make sure Mrs. Champion knows if you need new band shoes ("Dinkles"), and what size you need. Shoes cost $22, payable to Sam Knepley. Color Guard shoes are $29.
• DUE ASAP: MEAL FEE AND WATER BOTTLE $$$!!!! If you do not have a water jug (the red ones with the shoulder strap we use at games), they are $5 each, payable to HUTTO BAND BOOSTERS. If you have not paid your out-of-town games meal fee, and you would like the boosters to provide you with a meal on those days, you need to bring $30, payable to HUTTO BAND BOOSTERS.
• FOUNDATIONS BOOKS and TUNERS!!!! Please make certain that you have these for rehearsal next week. Most of you own these already from last year, but if you have not purchased them, please take care of this immediately! Better Than New Band Repair (388-7774) has stocked the books specifically for our HS and MS band students.
• Lyres and flip-folders: Mr. Gist has asked that we have these in rehearsal Monday, along with a pencil, and the 6, 789, 463 pieces of new music we passed out in rehearsal this week. Extra flip-folder pages are available at local music stores (Hillje Music and Better Than New Band Repair).
• EAT A HEALTHY BREAKFAST!!!! Again we say, if you're not eating a proper breakfast, you're likely to get sick and/or pass-out in the heat. Please make certain that your body has the fuel it needs to take care of you!
• HYDRATE! You need to be drinking water all day long, not just during practice. Gatorade is a helpful thing, too. Try to cut out the sodas-the caffeine will dehydrate you!
